Product Description One of the greatest engineering feats ever, the Panama Canal is becoming one of the world's most popular cruise itineraries. Ports of call span the Caribbean and the Mexican Riviera, but the highlight of the cruise is the eight-hour transit of the Canal in which six massive locks raise and lower the ship 85 feet. Read about the monumental construction of the Canal as well as the history, culture, flora and fauna of this tropical region. Detail provided on popular ports, from Florida to California. Over 400 maps and photos most in color. Includes giant color fold out map of Panama Canal

Great book for the canal May 23, 2010 Marathon Cruiser (San Diego, CA) We took a Panama Canal cruise recently and used this guide throughout our three week cruise and found it very useful. The history of the canal in this book is especially riveting when you learn of the sacrifice of so many people who perished while building the canal. The background on the engineering challenges gives a good picture of why it took so long for a canal to be built. There are over 70 pages on the history, construction and operation of the canal which, along with the numerous maps of the canal (including a huge pullout map) and dozens of archival photos, really takes you back to the time of this engineering marvel. The book also had all the ports, at least on our itinerary, we visited before and after the canal segment. Great book!
Not what I was looking for May 9, 2010 Loren R. Chambers (Shakopee, MN) When I bought this book I was looking for a book that compared the various cruise ships. My fault. I thought "by cruise ship" meant comparing each one. Not so. It is just a book about cruising the Panama Canal in general. Since we are experienced cruisers who have been through the Panama Canal once already it didn't tell us much we didn't already know. Nothing wrong with the book; it just wasn't what we were expecting.
Disappointed April 26, 2010 PK (FRG) I expected a book about the history and construction of Panama Canal, in addition on the sites along the route of the Panama Canal. Half a book was a guide book for the Caribbean and cruising, but not about the canal.
Panama canal by cruise ship 2nd edition April 14, 2010 Lyndia L. Harris (Winslow, AZ) The book is just what we needed for our cruise in October 2010. I liked the information and it gave us some great ideas on what to see and enjoy on this trip. The company that sent the book describe the item and condition perfectly. We were impressed with the service.
Pnama cruise guide April 6, 2010 C. M. Coleman (Montana) Good, comprehensive book. It was great to have so many countries covered so we had all the information at our fingertips. One problem: the map at the back of the book was completely backwards!
