Made our trip to Acadia spectacular! September 1, 2010 Catherine A. Getchell (Pittsburgh, PA) My husband and I visited Acadia National Park with four others for a week in the summer of 2010. It's always hard to plan a trip with a large group. But we read the book beforehand, bookmarked things that sounded interesting, and made advance reservations for a few things so that all six of us would be sure to get a spot. His recommendations for things to do and see, places to eat, etc, were excellent, and all the phone numbers were correct, a big plus! He has recommendations for everyone from hard core hiking enthusiasts to nature nuts to beach bums. I especially liked the fact that he included specific recommendations for things to do on many parts of the island, not just Bar Harbor. We stayed in Southwest Harbor and enjoyed his many recommendations for things to do less than a ten-minute drive away. His section in the middle of the book about island history and wildlife also made for very interesting reading. This trip to Acadia was the best vacation I've had in a long, long time, thanks in large part to how helpful this guidebook was.
EXCELLENT and Thorough July 20, 2010 Julie This is the best travel book I've ever purchased! The author discuses all relevant parts of the island and national park. Instead of focusing on lodging, I was excited to get insider tips about where to visit, eat, etc. History and Geography were even covered. I highly recommend this book! Great information and photos!
Almost Perfect June 27, 2010 andrhl This is my second trip to Acadia, the first time was in childhood. I love to use guidebooks to navigate what is and isn't necessary to do in the park. This book was wonderful! It broke down every area of the island into sections then suggested restaurants, places to shop, the best sites, hikes, and provided a bit of history along with it. And the pictures were amazing. Highly recommend it. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is because he doesn't discuss fishing in the area at all (besides fishing tours) and my husband is an avid fisherman so I had to look elsewhere for that information. But I will be buying more of his guidebooks in the future.
Informative and witty June 24, 2010 Edna Mode (Orono, ME USA) This is a handy little book about Acadia. I enjoy the author's sense of humor and witty writing. It has a lot of useful information, whether you're completely new to the area or (like me) grew up practically next door. I like that it includes historical information (that's fun to read) as well as practical info for navigating and enjoying the park. The one thing it's missing is a single complete map--it gets a little confusing flipping around to find the maps for the various areas. On the other hand, the official park maps are very good and readily available, so the book doesn't really need on.
Very helpful June 21, 2010 Merrilee G. Anderson (Frigid, PA) Given that Acadia does not have a lot of trail markings as you're driving around, this book was invaluable! We were thrilled with Raven's Cliffs in the Schoodic section of the park, and would never have even known about it without this. Thanks James Kaiser!
