| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The 2009 edition of the 'A to Z Guide to Santorini' is a complete and comprehensive guide to the Aegean island of Santorini. The book covers in depth the history and myths of the island including Atlantis, the history of the volcano, the archaeological sites of Akrotiri and Thera, what to see, car hire and public transport, where to go, what to do, eating out, the best beaches, shopping, travel information, maps, organising a wedding on the island and a host of tips and hints for the holidaymaker and traveler. The author, Tony Oswin, is an ex-pat from the UK, now living on the Greek island of Thassos. He realised the need for such a book on his numerous visits to the Greek islands, during which he always found it difficult acquiring information locally. The book is therefore aimed at helping the visitor save time and money, both prior to and during their visit and to get the most out of their stay on this dramatic and beautiful island. Other Greek islands covered in the 'A to Z Guide' series are Thassos and Kos.

Dear Mr. Howard
May I suggest that if in future if you write reviews, you first make sure of your facts. First, regarding 'orientated', please check the Oxford dictionary and you will find the definition listed as 'having a specific orientation'.
Second, please read the book more carefully and you will see that I explain that my books are totally independent, I do not receive any financial benefit from any business I mention, unlike many guide books. With regard to restaurants, peoples tastes differ widely and the number of restaurants on Santorini is extensive. As stated in the book, I therefore think it is honest only to give a concise list and descriptions of the food available on the island.
I would also suggest that rather than saving a few dollars purchasing last years edition, you invest in the 2010 book which includes the latest information.
With regards to Lonely Planet, you obviousely did not see the wide coverage of these guide books in the news in 2008. I would therefore draw your attention to the many web articles if you google with 'Lonely Planet Fraud'.

This book leaves much to be desired. April 29, 2010 Courtney E. Howard (Nashville, TN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was really disappointed with this book. As another reviewer mentioned, there wasn't much substance to the book. I would have appreciated specific information about restaurants, etc., rather than just the general information included. The history was interesting but not very helpful. The author says to check the websites for flight information as if someone reading this book hadn't already thought of that. There were also several typos which is very frustrating to find in a publication. He even uses the word "orientated" which isn't a real word. That's just buggy stuff but it gives the impression that not too much time, research, or editing went into this book. Overall, this guidebook wasn't helpful to me at all. I bought it because it was the only one I could find on Santorini but after reading this A to Z guide I've gone ahead and ordered the Lonely Planet guide to the Greek Islands. I recommend the same for anyone else.

Looking for an `A to Z' that covers our next-years Greek holiday, we were amazed to see the review by R. Korinke on the A to Z Guide to Santorini. My husband and I used this guide last year and found it a fantastic companion. I just don't understand the comments and wonder whether this is another publisher/author reviewing this book, we have heard this happens! One of his comments is that there are ninety pages, when actually there are 180!
We found the book so useful, packed with all the information you could wish for, written in an easy to use and personal style. Other guide books we have looked at are usually out of date or misleading. We hope other 'honest' reviewers will confirm our view.
A to B Guide...maybe September 1, 2009 R. Korinke (Calfornia, United States) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I would hardly call this the comprehensive guide to Santorini. I was looking for something with a bit more detail than the 5 to 10 pages afforded to Santorini by a Greece or Greek Islands travel guide...while there were certainly more pages, they were not very useful. The dining guide said to "look for places where the locals are eating", but dear author you live there/nearby - please just tell us where they are!! (There were literally no restarants named in that section).
The sports & recreation section tells you that it is possible to jet ski at Santorini's beaches (awesome - but, all of them? some of them? do I have to transport my own there?).
I usually am not a reviewer, but as I finished this 90 pager over breakfast this morning (I hope I can return it still), I felt compelled to warn others - stick with the Frommers / Lonely Planet / Fodor's / Rough Guide / general guide to Greece or the islands. This adds nothing to the canon.
