5 out of 5 stars spot on- with little hype or promotion   June 10, 2010

One thing that they didn't mention was to find someone with a fisherman in the family and buy fresh fish for dinner. Ono is fabulous on the grill. Other than that little oversight, carried this little book all over the big island, and found the reviews accurate and insightful. Thanks girls! Great trip, best investment under 20 bucks, kept us from wasting time and money. If you like music, wood working or just eclectic things check out the Ukelele Museum, and talk to Mr Rosen, ask to see inside his shop where the magic happens.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but there are better ones out there   April 10, 2010

We read 6 books on the Big Island before going there (I know, a little compulsive). This one is helpful, but really the only two books you need are: Hawaii The Big Island Revealed by Andrew Doughty and Adventure Guide Hawaii The Big Island (Hunter Travel Guides) by Bryan Fryklund & Jen Reeder. The Fryklund/Reeder book is absolutely jam-packed with information. The Doughty is also packed with info and will have a few things the Fryklund book doesn't have, but it's main attribute is that it is an absolute joy to read.

5 out of 5 stars Hawaii; The Big Island   November 28, 2009

This book is a great reference tool and one I would completely
recommend. Great photos paint an authentic picture of each area reviewed. It is a definite KEEPER!

5 out of 5 stars Gorgeous photographs and the best description of Puna ever!   June 27, 2009

This book absolutely touched my heart and soul. I was especially thrilled to read the information about Puna. I especially loved that the authors visited the Big Island and took the time to include specific details and information. I feel this book is a "must read" for anyone planning a visit to the Big Island of Hawai'i. I believe the writing to be above and beyone the average vacation guide. Mahalo!!!

I used this book on my recent trip to the Big Island and really loved it. Liked the section which talks about : Best hike, best snorkeling spot etc. It was fun to read about the history of places we were visiting. Also, the book is very colorful with awesome photographs.
