| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Snorkel Hawaii The Big Island (3rd edition) is the one and only guidebook exclusively devoted to snorkeling on the Big Island. No other guide comes close to the level of snorkeling detail provided here. Take SHTBI, along with a good general guidebook of your choice, and you'll have all the details you need for a great vacation! Now revised and expanded, with full color maps, as well as beach and fish pictures! From a colorful cover to 37 accurate maps and details on 60 snorkeling sites, SHTBI draws you into the fascinating underwater world that shouldn't be missed by anyone touring the Big Island. As Dave Barry says: When you finally see what goes on underwater, you realize that you've been missing the whole point of the ocean--it's like going to the circus and staring at the outside of the tent. An award-winning book designer contributed a sophisticated, yet readable style to the cover and interior. It's worth going to the Big Island just to swim and snorkel, and Snorkel Hawaii The Big Island is the snorkeling buddy you want to have along.

| Customer Reviews: Best Book on Snorkeling in Hawaii July 21, 2010 Marcia Brinkley (San Pedro, CA) I bought an earlier version of this book when I came to the Big Island on vacation and just bought the newest edition since moving to the island. My husband and I don't try a new beach without consulting this book. Each write-up tells me everything I need to know as a fairly timid snorkeler - best times to go, easiest entries and other salient points. We also appreciate knowing how far we'll need to walk to the beach and what's nearby. A wonderful book.
Great book October 1, 2009 J. Ryan (Clinton, MA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My wife and I love to snorkel but always have difficulty finding and safely accessing good spots. We have been thinking about visiting Hawaii next year and purchased this book to get ready for the trip. The book contains everything we needed to pick out the best spots for our abilities and interests. It also contains many helpful hints on equipment and techniques. We have snorkeled the Caribbean islands and Bermuda quite a bit and have never found a guide that was even close to this. Can't wait to go!
Best Big Island snorkel guide September 26, 2009 E. Schaffer (California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My spouse and I have used the Malinowskis' snorkel guides for both Hawaii and Maui. To us, these guide books are invaluable. Snorkel sites are not "created equal." The Malinowskis tell you which sites are best in terms of what's to see and ease of entry. They also give you insight about best times to visit the site, and safety issues to be aware of. Snorkel Hawaii and their other guides are MUSTS for those who want to experience the beautiful under-water side of the Hawaiian Islands, and do so safely.
Snorkel the Big Island April 12, 2009 R. Connors (Oregon USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I had previously used the 1996 edition of Snorkel Hawaii and was quite happy to see the improvements to this edition. Color pictures of locations and entry points. Some very nice pictures of reef fish as well. The snorkeling sites that I have visited are described accurately; Kealakeakua Bay, 2-Step, Kauna'oa Beach, White Sands, Wai'alea Beach, Kailua Pier.
This is a very good book for sorting out Big Island beaches. If you are just looking for a protected beach for the kids or some deep water this is the definitive book to have.
BTW, The author describes Kekaha Kai Park as a "VERY bumpy access road". It had some very difficult stretches on previous visits, but the county has seen fit to fix them. It is still a moonscape, but access to a couple of Hawaii's most beautiful beaches has improved.
A great guide!
Great Book February 22, 2009 Ron WD 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I wanted as much info as I could get regarding snorkeling sites on the Big Island before arriving and this book was just what I was looking for.
