Amazon.com Review When Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert of Green Gables, Prince Edward Island, send for a boy orphan to help them out at the farm, they are in no way prepared for the error that will change their lives. The mistake takes the shape of Anne Shirley, a redheaded 11-year-old girl who can talk anyone under the table. Fortunately, her sunny nature and quirky imagination quickly win over her reluctant foster parents. Anne's feisty spirit soon draws many friends--and much trouble--her way. Not a day goes by without some melodramatic new episode in the tragicomedy of her life. Early on, Anne declares her eternal antipathy for Gilbert Blythe, a classmate who commits the ultimate sin of mocking her hair color. Later, she accidentally dyes that same cursed hair green. Another time, in her haste to impress a new neighbor, she bakes a cake with liniment instead of vanilla. Lucy Maud Montgomery's series of books about Anne have remained classics since the early 20th century. Her portrayal of this feminine yet independent spirit has given generations of girls a strong female role model, while offering a taste of another, milder time in history. This lovely boxed gift collection comprises Anne of Green Gables, Anne of the Island, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of Windy Poplars, Anne's House of Dreams, Anne of Ingleside, Rainbow Valley, and Rilla of Ingleside. (Ages 9 to 12) --Emilie Coulter

The Best Book Ever!!!!! February 1, 2010 Kira S (Baltimore, MD) Anne of Green Gables, by L.M. Montgomery, is the best book for a child who is 9-19 years old and who has a great imagination and a love for reading. If your children are always on video games, let them read this book and they will think twice about rotting their brains on video games.
This story takes place at Green Gables, Prince Edwards Island in the 1920s. Anne Shirley, an orphan at the time, has an amazing history. Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, who are brother and sister, want to adopt a boy but they get Anne instead. She wants to stay and they say yes. Anne then gets adopted by the Cuthberts. Anne makes a new friend called Diana and they are kindred spirits. Anne and Diana both have great imaginations. Throughout the book she gets into a lot of trouble in school and at home. By the end of the story, Anne turns out to be a very nice and generous girl.
I like this book because I like to hear about other people's imagination and trouble. Anne of Green Gables is on sale in book stores everywhere. The next time you want to buy a book with trouble and adventure, choose Anne of Green Gables. When your children get to the end of the book there are several more books in the series.

Happy after initial confusion February 1, 2010 Katie in OZ (Australia) The large banner that I ordered under said that if I ordered by the following day's date, I would be guaranteed delivery before Christmas. As soon as my order was processed, I recieved notice that the gifts would arrive by 16 January. Several emails to and fro, I was told that there was no way for Amazon to track the progress of my parcels. As this wasn't the issue and the number of times I had restated the issue seemed sufficient, I gave up and waited. The parcels did arrive in time for Santa to deliver them! The set is gorgeous and I am happy with how things turned out.
Superb! January 30, 2010 susiQ One of the best series for girls of all ages! Touching, funny and engaging, these books will keep you turning the pages for more!
The Adventure of Anne January 27, 2010 K. Lopez (Paris, France) Anne Shirley, a skinny orphan who is mistakenly sent to the Cuthberts. This special girl has an enormous imagination and uses it in unique ways. Anne has fiery red hair and a temper to go with it. Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert have a hard, but splindid time raising her. The story's setting is on Prince Edward's Island and takes place during the nineteen hundreds. Anne grows up to be a fine lady. She has tons of adventures at Green Gables. Diana, her best friend, and Anne's friendship lasts very long. I would recommend this fascinating book to young readers. Readers who love happiness, suspense and adventure all in one book whould love "Anne of Green Gables". If you ever read this book, then you'll have the adventure of Anne Shirley.
Olivia's Review January 15, 2010 Steven Koski Anne of Green Gables is a loveable book that depicts the story of Anne Shirley, an orphan, who is adopted by an older brother and sister. The story takes place on Prince Edward Island just off the Canadian coast. Anne knows that she's not what the Cuthberts expected, especially because she's not a boy, which was what they wanted. Instead, they got a skinny girl with blazing red hair. As you get to know Anne, you will discover that her hair is not the only thing that blazes.
On her first ride to Green Gables Anne, enchanted, goes through what she names, "The White Way of Delight", an apple grove in blossom. After that she sees a lake over a grove of trees. The neighbor's pond is breathtaking when the sun sets, and, still in awe, Anne decides to name it "The Lake of Shining Waters". After they arrive home, Marrilla Cuthbert is very upset. A boy she wanted, and boy she thinks she will get! But, the Cuthberts know she's no ordinary girl. Will they send her back?
It certainly would be very hard for anyone not to root for little Anne, who might be sent back to the orphanage after all. This book has enchanted many, including myself. Anne is thrown into a little world where everyone must learn who she really is. She's clearly special owing to a large imagination and a tendency to speak off the top off her head. But no mater how funny, energetic, loving and imaginative Anne is, she has to learn the ways of Green Gables, where she hopes she can stay, where she hopes someday she can be called, "Anne of Green Gables".
