Product Description #1 New York Times bestselling author Nelson DeMille delivers the long-awaited follow-up to his classic novel The Gold Coast.
When John Sutter's aristocratic wife killed her mafia don lover, John left America and set out in his sailboat on a three-year journey around the world, eventually settling in London. Now, ten years later, he has come home to the Gold Coast, that stretch of land on the North Shore of Long Island that once held the greatest concentration of wealth and power in America, to attend the imminent funeral of an old family servant. Taking up temporary residence in the gatehouse of Stanhope Hall, John finds himself living only a quarter of a mile from Susan who has also returned to Long Island. But Susan isn't the only person from John's past who has reemerged: Though Frank Bellarosa, infamous Mafia don and Susan's ex-lover, is long dead, his son, Anthony, is alive and well, and intent on two missions: Drawing John back into the violent world of the Bellarosa family, and exacting revenge on his father's murderer--Susan Sutter. At the same time, John and Susan's mutual attraction resurfaces and old passions begin to reignite, and John finds himself pulled deeper into a familiar web of seduction and betrayal. In THE GATE HOUSE, acclaimed author Nelson Demille brings us back to that fabled spot on the North Shore -- a place where past, present, and future collides with often unexpected results.

Fantastic book; great sequel to Gold Coast. Really liked John Sutter and the narrator was superb! March 12, 2010 BostonLady (Boston, MA USA) Third DeMille book that I have read: Gold Coast, Plum Island (not so much). Really liked Sutter's humor. DeMille must be a pipp to live with!
I like DeMille, but not this book February 28, 2010 M. Gilleo (Washington DC) I have read most of DeMille's stuff and he is, generally speaking, one of my favorite novelists. If you are satisfied purely by DeMille's humor, wit and unique first person writing style, this book will leave you fulfilled. If you are looking for a plot, you will not find one. It is a continuation of the Gold Coast in theory, but the element of danger is contrived and with the exception of one chapter, it is void of suspense. If you like DeMille, these detractions could be overlooked, but at nearly 700 pages, there were way too many wasted chapters for me. If I hadn't been on vacation, I probably wouldn't have finished this book, and that would have been a first for one of DeMille's.
Easy suspense style February 22, 2010 Leah Swanson (Portland, OR USA) Chosen because it was a book club selection but I am so thankful the ladies introduced me to DeMille. Everyone said it wasn't his best work, so I'm going to find some other selections but I liked it. It started out really interesting but kinda flattened out midway. Then picked up towards the end. All in all, I liked it.
The Gate House by Nelson DeMille February 19, 2010 John C. Sinon I have read all of Nelson DeMille's books and have enjoyed every one of them. This book was no exception. It had me chuckling throughout. His main character, John Sutter, is much like John Corey, the main character in another series of DeMille books (Plum Island, Lions Game, Wild Fire). The book is adventurous and humorous at the same time. An excellent read.
The Gate House - Hits the Mark! February 14, 2010 Charles L. Maartin Jt (Alexandri, VA) The Gate House for a great following up to the Gulf Coast. I'm a Nelson DeMille fan - enjoyed this read about a mystery on Long Island, NY.
