Product Description A girl. An iguana. An island. And e-mail. Meet Nim–a modern-day Robinson Crusoe! She can chop down bananas with a machete, climb tall palm trees, and start a fire with a piece of glass. So she’s not afraid when her scientist dad sails off to study plankton for three days, leaving her alone on their island. Besides, it’s not as if no one’s looking after her–she’s got a sea lion to mother her and an iguana for comic relief. She also has an interesting new e-mail pal. But when her father’s cell-phone calls stop coming and disaster seems near, Nim has to be stronger and braver than she’s ever been before.
And she’ll need all her friends to help her.

Great book!! May 9, 2008 D. Fuerte (Mesa, Arizona) This book was excellent. I had never heard of it until I saw the movie with the same title. It is very colorful and fund to read with my daughter who is 8.
For a much younger audience than the movie April 18, 2008 Torah Cottrill (Okinawa, Japan) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This slim book, while nice in its own way, won't entertain fans of the movie for long. The squiggly line cartoons, the straightforward prose, remind me of the "Henry and Mudge" books, for a slightly older reader. To say that the book was plumped to make the movie is an understatement --- most of the adventure and suspense of the movie (along with most of the characterization and at least two characters) are not present in the book.
On its own, this is a very nice children's book. The Amazon description that it will appeal to children from ages 9 - 12 is completely off, though. I can't imagine that a reader over the age of 9 would find this terribly entertaining. If you haven't seen the movie, read the book first and enjoy it for itself. If you've already seen the movie, skip this book and go straight to Phillip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" (for fantasy) or Carl Hiaasen's "Hoot" (for boys' adventure) or Scott O'Dell's "Island of the Blue Dolphins" (for girls' adventure). "Nim's Island" is more appropriate for readers from ages 7 - 9.
Great preteen reading. March 29, 2008 Betty J. Kilgore (Medway, Ohio) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Abigail is eleven years old and her story is full of mystery, fun and warmth. Preteen girls can experience island adventures vicariously through Abigail's story...this is the kind of book that will be read and read again.
Great adventure for young (and young at heart) January 29, 2008 soupy (NJ, USA) [[ASIN:0385736061 Nim's Island] After reading the book and seeing the trailer, both are excellent family entertainment with all the fun expanding on tne screen and in print. In the movie 300 star Gerard Butler plays super duel roles of Jack Rusoe, a great, connected Dad and Alex Rover, the imaginary, adventure story book character of author Jodie Foster. Both Jodie and Abigail Breslin steal your heart with charming performances.
A Great Read for Young and Old, alike January 11, 2008 R. Thompson (Culleoka, TN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great read for children and adults, alike. I read this before giving it to my 7 year old grandaughter and I fell in love with all of the characters and the animals. What a delightful book of an island adventure! It has action, mystery, adventure, excitement and love. It teaches you to use your imagination to visualize the island and its animals. It encourages bravery, commitment and learning about new places and things. Books like this one encourage children to read more. What else can you want from a good book?
