Product Description
Elizabeth "Betts" McGee loved those lazy afternoons on pristine Bulls Island in the Carolina Lowcountry. But everything came crashing down when tragic fateâcoupled with nasty rumor and innuendoâended her engagement to Charleston golden boy J.D. Langley of the fabulously wealthy (and fabulously snooty) Langley clan. Betts left soon after, and she hasn't been back in nearly twenty years. Successfully reinventing herself in New York City, Betts is now a top banking executive and heading up the most important project of her career, but it'll transform the untouched island she loved in her youth into something unrecognizable. And it's forcing her to return to the bosom of her estranged family, where she may not be welcomed with open arms. Worse still, it's uniting her with ex-flame J.D., who's changed . . . but perhaps not enough. And then there's that crazy alligator . . .

Realistic Look at Families & A Little Mystery August 10, 2010 Libby Mari This was one of the most entertaining and enjoyable books I've read on my Kindle yet. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, which were well developed and believable for the most part, and the reunion of the family members after several years apart was realistic. The "mystery" aspect of the novel takes a back seat to the romantic story telling but adds something unique to the story line that keeps the plot moving. If you like fun, sweet, family and (chaste) romance stories, then this book will not disappoint you.
Betts McGee is about to have her past come back to bite her in the butt August 5, 2010 sailorwind (Alexandria, VA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Betts McGee is about to have her past come back to bite her in the butt. Betts was happily engaged to her childhood sweetheart in Charleston, SC... for about an hour. That evening a tragic accident happens to Betts' family and everyone blames her fiance's mother, including her fiancé. Unfortunately, Betts' family also blames HER. Feeling alone and unable to find it in her heart to marry into the family that has ripped hers apart, she leaves town and takes her secret with her- she's pregnant. 19 years later, Betts is a successful businesswoman with a son about to go to Columbia. A son who thinks his mother is from Atlanta and that his entire extended family died in a car crash. When Betts' boss makes a business deal with her ex-fiance's family business and insists that she go to Charleston to follow through on that deal, Betts knows her days are limited. Struggling to put her family back together and find a way to tell everyone the truth, Betts is of course due to make some mistakes both personal and professional.
Despite this book's somewhat predictable plot, it was a true joy to read. The characters were well written and seemed to jump off the page. I enjoyed my time spent with Betts, J.D., Sela, and even Valerie. While not believable all the time, the characters certainly were loveable. The only thing I was underwhelmed by was the writer's follow-through. I never felt I fully understood Vinny's motivation or back-story and I was definitely looking forward to a bigger climax when Betts' secret finally came out. Maybe there will be a second book that looks more closely at that.
I Liked It July 25, 2010 K. CARTER This was the first book by this author that I have read so I cannot compare it to her previous works. Yes, Betts was a bit unlikable but I think we are all unlikable from time to time. I found her to be very human. The story held my interest and I will read other books my Ms Frank. Bottom Line - I enjoyed this book very much
I want more!!! July 14, 2010 Sumer Hall (Paragould, AR) I normally don't review books after I read them. I really enjoyed this book, and didn't want to get up until I finished reading it. It reminded me of the short lived show on ABC called October Road (I LOVED that show too). I wish there was a second book to let us look into the lives of Bett, JD, and Adrian!
Well Written, but heroine is not really very likable June 18, 2010 Jay Hopson (TX) This book flows well.. characters are pretty believable... but I found myself disliking the heroine which really lowered the quality of the book. She makes lots of excuses for herself, but really us just a very selfish woman.
